Anonymous Contributors

Some of the strongest reporting on insurgency and political violence comes from people who cannot put their name to it. A number of Modern Insurgent's contributors write anonymously — among them serving professionals, regional specialists, and writers reporting from places where a byline would carry real personal or professional risk.

Publishing them under a shared name lets us run that expertise and first-hand access without exposing the individual behind it. Every anonymous piece is held to exactly the same editorial and sourcing standards as our bylined work; the only thing withheld is the author's identity. We consider it a strength of the publication — proof that the work, not the name attached to it, is what earns a place here.
